Please see individual descriptions below for specific camp topics, dates, ages, prices, and a list of things to bring.  The Aquarium will provide water and snacks every day for each camp.  All campers need to bring a bag lunch and closed toe shoes to camp EVERY day.

Half-Day Camps

Animal Planet Camp

Fly, slither, or swim your way to the aquarium for a week full of animal discovery! Together we will learn about the wild lives of animals, what they like to eat and the diverse habitats they live in. We will even encounter a few live animals at the aquarium. 

Ages 6-7. Closed toe shoes and a bag lunch are required. Booster seat for morning shuttle, if required.

Ocean Explorers Camp

Welcome to a week full of adventure as we discover the many wonders of the big blue ocean. Come learn about sea stars, sharks, sea turtles and many more sea creatures! Campers will explore the ocean through fun-filled activities and crafts, and find out ways to help protect the ocean along the way. 

Ages 6-7. Closed toe shoes and a bag lunch are required. Booster seat for shuttle, if required.

Roanoke Island Explorers- Nature Play

Join us in Nature Play as we run, jump and crawl our way to natural discoveries.  Build your own tools, go on a scavenger hunt, and get crafty with nature’s resources.  Learn about the diverse animals that inhabit our backyards with live animal encounters - turtles, snakes, frogs, insects, and many more. Come explore and learn through the art of nature play!


Ages 6-7. Closed toe shoes and a bag lunch are required. Booster seat for shuttle, if required.

Full-Day Camps

Junior Aquarist Summer Camp

Grab your boots, it’s time to be an aquarist! Explore the Aquarium with aquarists on the job and get behind-the-scenes looks at what it takes to care for aquatic and terrestrial animals. Campers will learn about a variety of animals at the aquarium, understand what it takes to keep animals healthy, create animal enrichments, and track animal behavior of some of the Aquarium’s most exciting animals. Roll up your sleeves and prepare to dive into the life of an aquarist!  

Ages: 10-11. Closed toe shoes and a bag lunch are required.

Junior Aquatic Adventures Summer Camp

Have fun in the sun and dive into science to explore aquatic ecosystems on the Outer Banks! Get wet in the waves at the beach, muck around for crabs in the salt marsh, and splash on a snorkeling adventure at the YMCA for an underwater view. Open your eyes to some awesome bivalves-oysters! by visiting the NC Coastal Federation to learn more about them and their importance to the ecosystem. Other exciting activities include Gyotaku (Fish Printing), a sand lab, fishing, a squid or fish dissection, crabbing, stand-up paddleboarding, and meeting a few animal ambassadors up close. Wrap up the week with a little friendly competition in Beach Olympics!

Fisherman's Camp

Brush off your fishing rods, waders, and cast nets as we become future watermen! Campers will go fishing every day, identify their catch, and take a tour of a local fish-packing house. Join us as we leave the shoreline for a grand adventure aboard a vessel to learn and practice some fishing techniques and reel in a local fish or two. Learn about sustainable seafood and enjoy a seafood demonstration from Johanna’s Café Lachine. Discover more about sea turtles and watermen's efforts to save these animals from the perils of their nets. From catching to conservation, learn a waterman’s side of fishing!

Ages: 12-13. Closed-toe shoes, a bag lunch and necessary field attire are required.

Senior Aquarist Summer Camp

Aquarists care for a wide variety of fish and other marine life in aquariums. Follow in the footsteps of our aquarists to experience what it's like to do hands-on work behind the scenes.  Campers will prepare animal diets, complete water quality assessments, create animal enrichments and more. Jellies, sharks, river otters, juvenile gators, spider crabs and turtles are just a small variety of animals in our care. Learn what Citizen and Science Projects are and a few that we are conducting here at the aquarium! Roll up your sleeves and prepare to dive into the life of an aquarist!

Ages: 12-13. Closed toe shoes, a bag lunch, and necessary field attire are required.

Junior Shellebrate Turtles Summer Camp

Scutes, carapace, and beaks, oh my! Learn what it takes to be a turtle! Campers will design their own turtle using various craft supplies and create a habitat for that reptile. Enjoy live animal encounters and use your exploratory skills for an aquarium scavenger hunt for turtles! Visit the Sea Turtle Assistance and Rehabilitation Center and take part in rescue and rehabilitation simulations at the Operation Sea Turtle Rescue Exhibit. Explore the wonderful world of turtles and make turtle promises on ways to help protect them!

Ages: 8-9. Closed toe shoes and a bag lunch are required. Booster seat, if required.

Aquatic Adventures Summer Camp

Calling all aquatic adventure seekers! Join us for a week full of aquatic activities! Kayak the Albemarle Sound behind the infamous Jockey’s Ridge and catch a wave with Farmdog Surf School for a surfing adventure. Learn about the many coastal restoration projects that the NC Coastal Federation spearheads, such as building oyster reefs. Continue your aquatic excursions with stand-up paddleboarding on the beautiful Croatan Sound, and seine for fish at a salt marsh and at the beach! Fulfill your aquatic activity list with us this summer!

Ages: 12-13. Closed toe shoes, a bag lunch, and necessary field attire are required.

Senior Shellebrate Turtles Summer Camp

Calling all sea turtle enthusiasts! Come learn turtle biology, conservation actions, and threats these animals face. Enjoy live animal encounters that showcase the different types of sea, land and freshwater turtles. Experience interactive reptilian station activities and take a trip to the beach for a mock nest observation and relocation activity. Learn the process of rescue and release at the Sea Turtle Assistance and Rehabilitation Center and visit a few sea turtle patients. Campers will help the environment and take part in a beach clean-up to reduce threats sea turtles may face!

Ages: 10-11. Closed toe shoes and a bag lunch are required.

EcoSeekers Summer Camp

Come explore habitats such as maritime forest, wetlands, sloughs and more with the aquarium. While investigating these habitats, campers will learn what ecosystems are and why they are important. Discover animals and plants while visiting a trail on a Coastal Reserve at Kitty Hawk Woods. EcoSeekers will experience engaging hands-on activities, eco-friendly crafts, games, daily educational programs, behind-the-scenes visits and local field trips. Our creative counselors will utilize our exhibits and live animal ambassadors to enhance the EcoSeeker experience!
