Aquarium Homeschoolers

REGISTRATION WILL OPEN March 1st AT 9:00AM

The Aquarium Homeschool Series is back this fall with many exciting new offerings focusing on scientific tools and methods, teamwork, and fun experiments! Each Tuesday morning from October through December, we will take students on a journey through our coastal habitats, our aquarium, even geologic history as we learn about the world around us. Come join us for science experiments, hands-on exploration, and educational games that go far beyond your average science class!

This series is most effective as a whole unit, so we encourage students to sign up for multiple sessions. However, each day is also designed to stand alone as a single lesson. When registering each student, please take note of both the date of the session and the appropriate age range or grade-level equivalent for each student.

Fantastic Floaters

March 21

Ever wondered how huge, heavy ships stay afloat? Or why submarines can sink at will? Today, we'll dive into the concept of buoyancy and the special properties of water that allow boats to float and spiders to walk on water. Through hands-on experiments, students will develop their own real-world understanding of the physical forces at work in watery worlds.

$6 per student Group 1: Ages 6-8   Group 2: Ages 9-11

For our monthly homeschool program, parents and teachers are allowed to drop off their students. The instructor will send out an outline of the learning outcome prior to the program.

Magnet Magic

March 28

Today is all about magnets: how they work, how we use them in tools, and how animals use the Earth's natural magnetic field to navigate the globe! Students will determine the properties of magnets and explore the concept of conductivity through labs. We will even learn how to make our own working compass.

The Science of Light and Sight

If you've ever wondered how a lighthouse works or how different animals see color, today is your chance to shine! We're learning all about light and optics, the science of seeing. Through hands-on experiments, we will learn how to bend, reflect, and harness light as a tool. Students will also learn how our perceptions of light – through our eyes, lenses, and other mediums – shape our perceived reality.

Outer Space and Finding Our Place

April 18

Outer Space and Finding Our Place

Today's class is truly out-of-this world! Join us for a trip around the solar system as we learn about Earth's place in space and how things that happen in space affect life on Earth. We'll also learn about the history of space exploration from Earth-bound star-gazers to modern astronauts! By the end of this lesson, students will gain a deeper understanding of the forces at work in outer space using tangible models, experiments, and games.

Reading's Nature Sign

May 2

Reading Nature's Signs

Before we had apartments, schools, and supermarkets, our ancestors survived off the land using their knowledge of plants, animals, and patterns in nature. Today's lesson will take us back to our roots as we learn how to read nature's signs and learn from the natural world around us. Wear weather appropriate clothes with long pants and sturdy closed-toe shoes because we're taking to the woods to identify plant and animal tracks and learn the importance of being familiar with the species that surround us.

For our monthly homeschool program, parents and teachers are allowed to drop off their students. The instructor will send out an outline of the learning outcome prior to the program.

Awesome Adaptations

Awesome Adaptations

Who would win in a race: a cheetah or a shark? What if the race was underwater? Today, we will learn how animals use their natural talents to be their best at different tasks and in different habitats. Students will then try their own hand (or beak) at specialization in a battle for delicious resources! For this lesson, please provide any allergy information relevant for your child so that we can ensure safe and fun participation for all.
